Industrialised Countries Under Critical Spotlight at U.N. Meet

Friday, 18 May 2012 01:00

This article reports on discussions at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) inter-sessional meetings in Bonn, Germany, including a workshop on equity at which Sivan Kartha, a senior scientist at SEI-US, gave a presentation.

The article notes three key components of equitable access to sustainable development cited by Kartha: that the global emissions peak be consistent with a 2°C trajectory, that each country have a sufficient share of the remaining greenhouse gas budget, and that each country have adequate financial and technological means to hold down emissions without compromising poverty eradication and development.
