Sustainable Recovery and Resilience Building in the Tsunami Affected Region

This project supports the region’s recovery from the 2004 Asian tsunami by generating knowledge and building capacity alongside key regional partners. The overall aim is to build long-term resilience to coastal hazards among vulnerable communities.

There are five parts to the programme:

  1. tsunami vulnerability assessment,
  2. early warning and community preparedness,
  3. integrating coastal community resilience into macroeconomic and sectoral institutions and policies,
  4. sustainable recovery and resilience-building strategies in the tourism industry, and
  5. sustainable water and sanitation for households and communities.
