Water, Socioeconomic and Ecological Relations in Urbanizing Environments – Phnom Penh
The main objective of this cross-center NOVA project is to identify water management and service provision policies and strategies that contribute to sustainable urbanization pathways.
Rapid urbanization is a dominant feature of global development and characterizes all parts of the developing world, with implications for environmental sustainability that resonate at local, regional and global levels. Providing adequate water and sanitation services, ensuring water’s availability for production and livelihoods development and ensuring that cities do not adversely affect ecosystems are fundamental challenges.
SEI staff are developing a framework for studying water withdrawals, supply, and quality in Phnom Penh, Cambodia to be implemented using WEAP. The primary output to date is a report describing the draft framework and a literature review.
