SEI Tallinn co-organises forum on sustainable development

The Estonian Sustainable Development Forum entitled “Sustainable development monitoring – Are we measuring the right things?” will take place on 11 November 2009 and looks at how Estonia should measure sustainable development.
SEI’s research centre in Tallinn will co-organise the one day Sustainable Development Forum with the Estonian State Chancellery on 11 November 2009. The Forum is entitled “Sustainable development monitoring – Are we measuring the right things?” and intended participants are policymakers, researchers, businesses and NGOs. Participants will discuss sustainable development monitoring in Estonia and how that fits more widely with practice within the rest of the EU.
Keit Kasemets from the State Chancellery Estonia will present the proposed sustainable development indicators from the joint research by the State Chancellery, Statistics Estonia and the Sustainable Development Commission of Estonia. Participants will discuss the adequacy of these indicators for the monitoring of the Estonian Sustainable Development Strategy within the areas of energy efficiency, sustainable transport and human capital.
The Statistics Estonia will present the new edition of Sustainable Development Indicators and the updated dashboard of sustainability. SEI researchers from both Tallinn and York will present strategies on measuring sustainability and the effective use of resources, such as through using the REAP software .
